As part of the Celestica Global Automation team, you are an Engineer with experience in all levels of automation equipment manufacturing and technologies. You can provide design solution concepts that can resolve complex manufacturing problems with the use of Automation. You can develop detailed estimation cost of wide variety of solutions involving different types of technologies (robotics, PLC, vision system, automated testers, safety, mobile robots, cleanroom requirements, etc) in different type of markets (industrial, smart energy, healthtech, communications, etc) aligned with different types of standards/regulations. You have experience designing, developing and deploying automation technologies for different industries. With this knowledge you are comfortable working in a team environment to create the requirements and specifications in order to build world-class equipment.
In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager of Automation Engineering. This position is based in Monterrey Mexico.
**Detailed Description**
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
-Conceptualize Automated/semi-automated assembly processes for different type of product.
-Estimate investment cost in different scenarios based on location/manufacturing volume/customer requirements/etc, including direct/indirect labor requirements.
-Create URS (User Requirement and Specifications) for automated assembly processes.
-Create automation solutions concept that meet Celestica's universal and site specific automation goals through the use of 2D CAD tools.
-Apply lean concepts as part of the methodology of the automation design solutions.
-Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. CE or customer specific)
-Interface with customers, suppliers and internal teams to provide site specific automation needs.
-Evaluate suppliers and understand capability and maturity for different processes.
-Manage suppliers on the deliverables through the design, development and deployment of automated solutions.
-Responsible for communicating progress on project tasks
-Formalize and update drawing documentation
-Support automation projects in all phases of the Project Life Cycle.
-Collaborate with various automation peers to deliver innovative automation solutions to customers.
-Be knowledgeable of automation market trends for different technologies.
**Knowledge/Skills/Competencies**
-Experience programming and troubleshooting industrial robots, PLCs and Vision Systems.
-Able to analyze and determine the automation requirement and drive deliverables to commitment through global network of vendors and internal resources
-Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills at different levels of the company
-Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and procedures
-Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings.
-Strong communicator.
-Experience with integrating 3rd party automation solutions as well as developing own solutions.
-Knowledge of some of the following automation systems and tools are important to be successful - robotic, vision inspection, material handling, ASRS, Conveyors, PLC, SCADA, screws/fasteners, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test
-Experience in Automated Turn Key Solutions; Previously involved in Design, Manufacturing, Installation, Start-Up & Commissioning Stages of the Project
-Knowledge of drafting principles using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks (or similar)
-Able to work in a fast-changing dynamic environments
-Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
-Project Management Experience; basic understanding of PMBOK
-Knowledge of Financial Terms and Calculations (ROI, Payback, etc.)
**Physical Demands**
+ Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
+ Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
+ Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
+ Occasional travel may be required.
+ Expectation of travel to vendor/supplier locations and other Celestica sites 10% of time. However, may be exceeded in critical times throughout project lifecycle.
**Typical Experience**
-Minimum 7 years in automation design at a machine integrator, or equivalent, designing and concepting machines from small table top to large complex integrated stations in assembly processes
-Basic knowledge of printed circuit board assembly/electronics manufacturing are a plus.
-Knowledge of project management tools and techniques such as; project and resource planning in MS Project and/or smartsheet considered an asset.
**Typical Education**
-Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering / Robotics/ Mechatronics or similar.
-CAPM/PMP project management certification is a plus.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, your role is to drive automation initiatives, develop new manufacturing processes, and enhance existing ones to meet CPK/SIGMA targets and ensure CSC Compliance. You'll document processes, standardize procedures, and conduct data-driven Root Cause Analyses (RCAs). Your expertise in automation and process optimization will boost our competitive edge and innovation. You'll also identify automation needs for new product introductions and capture any intellectual property arising from projects.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Evaluation process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, institutes continuous improvements to existing manufacturing operations through process automation/semi-automation
+ Project work scope typically includes equipment selection (design, development) manufacturing installation, start-up, and acceptance (Pilot, Pre-Pro Runs & EEM)
+ Develop and trial complex mechanisms, involving electromechanical solutions and full integrations
+ Interface with external machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers to specify and deliver fully integrated process machine systems on-time, on-budget and fulfilling the technical scope, provides site support on RCA and Design reviews
+ Utilize statistical tools, engineering data, and DMAIC/DESGN/Lean/MEE/TRIZ methodologies to develop equipment, fixtures and automates solutions to improve manufacturing processes.
+ Support equipment problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution when exceeds Controls team capabilities
+ Participate in Stage Gate (RA, LA, GA)
+ Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
+ Participate in equipment and fixturing solutions related to improve process KPI's
+ Propose and implement Kaizen and Safety iKaizen (ergonomic devices and processes) to enable a safe work environment;
+ Support Global equipment development and deployment projects
+ Provide electrical, mechanical, controls engineering and technical expertise in equipment and fixturing solution creation on all automation projects
+ Internal subject matter expert in design and development of automated solutions
+ Leads projects involving design, fabrication, off-line integration, testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel and technology transfer.
**Experiences/Education - Required**
**Education.**
+ Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree or higher in relevant discipline, Master's degree a plus
+ Bilingual (English and Spanish)
**Work Experience**
+ 5 years required, 2 years desired of experience as Engineer in Process/Manufacturing, Quality, NPI or Product Engineering in a multi-product manufacturing environment using Statistical Process Control or/ and Quality Control & Risk Assessment
+ 2 years of experiencia Programming PLC, (AB RS Logix, Control Logix, Siemens S7 and G&L)
+ 3 years of Equipment Development experience
**Additional Skills.**
+ DMAIC Green Belt certified, DMAIC Black Belt certification desired, PQA Green Belt experience a plus
+ Statistical training with experience applying concepts such as Process Capability and Measurement System Analysis, DOE's, Linear Regressions, Sample Size Calculation, etc
+ Professional knowledge of MS Office (particularly MS Excel software, MS Word, SPC XL desired, Visual Basic a plus)
+ Knowledge of Minitab, SPC or equivalent statistical software is required
